Christmas is nearly upon us and for much of the world it’s about a nice break from work. For many though in sport – even if they get Christmas day off – they are likely to be training, playing or coaching pretty soon afterwards. The rest of us may be on holiday but in the sport and leisure industry it can be one of their busiest periods.
In the midst of the busyness let’s not lose sight of what Christmas is really all about. Christmas is about Jesus. The angels’ message can be summed up in three simple statements and it is as much good news in 2012 as it was when the angels announced it to the shepherds over 2000 years ago.
There is good news – The good news is for everyone – The good news starts by finding Jesus
The whole Christmas story has the stamp of God. It changed human history forever. Nothing will be the same again. God became man.
So at this time of year spare a thought and a prayer for those :
- who are weekend warriors training for sporting goals they have set in various sports across 2013 where the holiday break may be just another day in the training schedule
- who are plying their professional sporting trade across the world during Christmas & New Year such as our Black Caps international cricketers and for those in preseason training looking forward to next season such as the NRL players like our NZ Warriors and others in the middle of their seasons like footballs Wellington Phoenix or the NZ Breakers basketball team.
The angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” Luke 2:10-12
Blessings on your Christmas and for the New Year.
