Sports Chaplaincy is about caring for New Zealand’s sports community.
Vision: To serve New Zealand’s sporting community through providing pastoral care and mentoring
Mission: To identify, train, appoint and guide dedicated chaplains to serve athletes and teams at all levels across New Zealand.
A Sports Chaplain is:
- A VOLUNTEER who is an invited and trusted guest in the sports setting, who is available for conversations with team members, which may be personal and therefore confidential.
- A PASTORAL MENTOR who considers the total person: mental, physical, spiritual and social rather than simply maximising the on field performance of the sports person.
- A TEAM PLAYER who works in relationship with the sport’s supporting community (doctors, physiotherapists, managers, sport psychologists, officials, coaching staff etc).
