I was playing in a social golf tournament and was teamed up with someone I had never met before. She told me that she is a volunteer committee member for her local netball club. It is growing faster than ever anticipated due to the new demographics of an earthquake ravaged city. It is now challenged with issues it has not ever experienced before or could have foreseen.
It is 10 months since we relocated from a large city on New Zealand’s North Island to the earthquake damaged city of Christchurch on the South Island. Since we came here God has been connecting me to people, who I could help because of my previous experience serving on a club committee.
Since that golf tournament I have learned that there are a number of believers on the local netball committee. How great is our God? He connected together a unique group of people, who can now together build into the lives of young sports people. This group of people can be a Godly influence, based on God’s wisdom and guidelines, by serving a sports community.
Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
“Sports do not build character. They reveal it.”
Thinking About It
It is not only elite athletes or high profile coaches who have a “platform” to witness from. Maybe you are not a coach but have a passion for serving in a sport community and to make a difference for God’s Kingdom. Why not get involved in administration managing a team or umpiring. Have you been challenged in this area lately?
God might be preparing you as a sports chaplain for a team or club. Could that be your calling?
PRAYING because you matter
Lord, Your plans are good plans. Help us to be faithful to you plans and seek your guidance and wisdom in all activities we get involved in.
